Birdland

Times Square Jazz Club

Inspired by jazz legend Charlie Parker, nicknamed the “Bird,” Birdland was founded in 1949 in the Broadway Theater District. Since then, the club has moved several times across Manhattan before returning to its homeland, just a stone's throw from Times Square. The hall saw the big names of jazz pass by in its red-tinted darkness. Seated at one of the tables distributed in a semicircle around the central stage, you will feast your ears as well as your eyes, if no mane obstructs your view.

Drum solos that will make you lose track of drumsticks, deep voices, fiery pianists and award-winning saxophonists like Joe Lovano. Except for the words of the leader who introduces the notes to follow, the music knows no rest during the two-hour show. While enjoying the musical poetry of Django Reinhardt, Diana Krall or Sinatra, you will sip an iced martini or order your dinner. For a few bites to share with friends, you can opt for the cheese and fruit platter or the prawns dipped in blue sauce. If your hunger is more intense, you will have an interesting choice of fish and seafood such as grilled tuna or scallops. Meat lovers will not be left out with various chicken recipes, lamb and a nice piece of beef. Desserts are also popular. Before leaving, be sure to take a look at the black and white photographs that adorn the club's red walls.
